History On March 25, 1959, Bishop Loras T. Lane created the new parish of St. Thomas More by dividing St. Laurence Parish and gifting the new parish with 15 acres from St. Laurence. Father Walter C. Roberts was appointed founding pastor. Groundbreaking ceremonies were held the following September. A year later, on the fourth of September, 1960, Father Roberts celebrated the first Mass in the new church. The parish grew quickly and the need for a larger church soon became evident. Thus, the present church was dedicated on February 4, 1979, by Bishop Arthur O'Neill. Our present church also houses Blessed Sacrament Chapel, the church administrative offices, and two meeting rooms. Father Geoffrey Wirth is our current Pastor, Father Dario Endiape is Associate Pastor and Father Andrew Plesa is retired in residence. St. Thomas More Catholic Grade School opened in September, 1960, for grades one through five, and was administered by the Springfield Dominican Sisters. Each year thereafter, an additional grade was added until eight grades were finally established. A new educational wing was added in 1992, providing space for three and four year old preschool programs, a full day kindergarten classroom, a learning resource center and computer lab, John Fisher meeting room and the staff lounge. The original church is now Roberts Hall which is used for plays, assemblies, music class, religious education classes and meeting rooms. Our school also has a gymnasium for our physical education classes and sports programs.
