BAPTISM
The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the first
and third weekends of the month at the 5 PM Mass, Noon Mass and at group
Baptism at 1 PM on Sundays.
Parents desiring Baptism for their child(ren) must call
the church office and speak with Carrie Rauch, our Director of
Evangelization, and become registered parishioners. Parents are
then required to attend a Baptism Preparation Class before the Baptism.
FIRST RECONCILIATION & FIRST COMMUNION
The sacrament of First Reconciliation is
received at the end of January. Children may choose to celebrate their
First Communion in a small group at the weekend liturgies or in a large
group on a Saturday morning at the end of April/beginning of May.
Children need to attend two years of Religious
Education (RE) or
attend a Catholic school prior to receiving these sacraments. Parents
are required to attend two mandatory meetings per sacrament in which the
theology, spirituality, preparation, and mechanics of the sacrament are
covered. During this year, parents are also required to meet with the
Director of Evangelization and the Director of Religious Education to
get to know each other and discuss any pastoral concerns. Parents are
asked to work with their children on the appropriate class materials.
CONFIRMATION
The sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated in
the Fall of junior year in high school. A student needs at least
two years of religious education or Catholic high school prior to
receiving the sacrament.
There are nine Confirmation sessions which take
place on Sunday mornings. Students are required to attend all nine
classes or make up the time on Wednesday afternoons. In addition,
students attend a retreat day, a communal penance service, pray a 30 day
vigil with their sponsor and put in service hours.
Since a desire to receive Confirmation is
essential, each student writes a personal letter to the pastor
expressing the desire to receive.
MARRIAGE
Couples should call the church at least six months in advance of the
proposed wedding date. Couples must meet with a parish priest to
set the wedding date and are required to participate in a marriage
preparation program either at our parish or at the diocese.
