2025 Jubilee Year - Year of Hope

The Universal Church looks toward the Jubilee Year 2025 (the 2,025th anniversary of the Incarnation of our Lord) - The Jubilee of HOPE. The Holy Father has chosen the theme of Hope for this year of prayer. He has asked for special prayers for hope for all the people of the world and for peace.The Jubilee Year will offer the faithful opportunities to participate in various jubilee events at the Vatican and in our own dioceses. The great tradition of opening the Holy Door will begin when Pope Francis opens the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica on December 24, 2024. For pilgrims who cannot travel to Rome, bishops around the world are expected to designate their cathedrals or a popular Catholic shrine as special places of prayer for Holy Year pilgrims, offering opportunities for reconciliation, indulgences and other events intended to strengthen and revive faith. In Rockford, St. Peter Cathedral Parish will be designated as a pilgrimage site for the Jubilee Year and a Mass initiating this Jubliee Year in the Diocese will also be
celebrated there on Sunday, December 29 at 11:00am.St. Thomas More has been designated by the Diocese of Rockford as a pilgrimage parish.

How to Obtain a Plenary Indulgence
During the 2025 Jubilee-
A plenary indulgence is a grace granted by the Catholic Church through the merits of Jesus Christ to remove the temporal punishment due to sin.
The indulgence applies to sins already forgiven. A plenary indulgence cleanses the soul as if the person had just been baptized. Plenary indulgences obtained during the Jubilee Year can also be applied to souls in purgatory with the possibility of obtaining two plenary indulgences for the deceased in one day, according to the Apostolic Penitentiary.
To obtain an indulgence, the usual conditions of detachment from all sin, sacramental confession, holy Communion, and prayer for the intentions of the pope must be met.

Make a pilgrimage to Rome
Perform works of mercy
Fast from social media, defend life, volunteer
Fasting
Visit your local cathedral (St. Peter in Rockford) or another church selected by the local bishop.
