  • "The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art."

  • ADULT CHOIR

    • The adult choir is the principal choir of St. Thomas More and heart and soul of the music ministry, singing every Sunday, usually at the 10 a.m. Mass, from after Labor Day until Corpus Christi. Practice is usually on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m.

We sing a variety of music from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary anthems. It's challenging, but it's fun! For information on how to join, simply scroll down!

  • resurrection choir

    • The Resurrection choir sings for funerals at St. Thomas More. It is open to anyone in the parish who would like to join.

This choir is a ministry of presence. Not only do we grace the families with our music, but we also represent the parish in giving consolation to the grieving. Indeed, this ministry is one of the most meaningful in music.

We can always use more members in our Resurrection choir! Please scroll down and fill out the form below. We contact the funeral choir anytime a funeral is scheduled (usually, 5-7 days ahead of the funeral). Members usually attend as their availability allows and practice in the hour before Mass begins.

  • Handbell Choir

    • The STM handbell choir plays several times a year, bringing a bright, shining touch to special Masses, including Midnight Christmas Mass and Easter Sunday. It's a fun way for both polished and inexperienced musicians (or non-musicians!) to contribute to music ministry.

  • cantors

    • The cantor/psalmist is a key role in music ministry, leading the singing of music when a choir is not present and proclaiming the word of God in the Responsorial psalm. This ministry requires a confident singer with a strong voice and a joyful disposition.

Cantors sing roughly twice a month. An audition is required to become a cantor; all music will be provided. To sign up, fill out the form below.

  • STM ensemble

    • The STM Ensemble is a rotating small group of musicians who sing for occasional special Masses. Singers must be able to learn and carry a part by themselves.

The music can be a bit more challenging, but it's amply rewarding to pull off.

  • Youth Choir

    • The St. Thomas More Youth Choir is a great way for students in grades 3-8 to get more involved with their Catholic faith, learn the basics of singing, make friends and have fun!

      • Practices: Wednesdays during the school year, 4:15 p.m. until 5:15 p.m., in church building’s Lancaster room

      • Music: We’ll cover everything from ancient Gregorian chant and traditional hymnody to gospel music and modern contemporary music! We want the kids to experience the diversity of the Church’s musical life, and we hope they find things they like!

      Director of music
      and liturgy

Hello! My name is Tim Horneman, and I am delighted to be here at St. Thomas More as the director of music and liturgy. Leading a congregation in song is a great privilege, and  it's an honor to build the STM community and its faith through sacred music.

I joined STM in 2021 after four years as music director at Divine Savior Parish in Downers Grove, three years during which I was also the K-8 music teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School in Downers Grove. But my sacred music career started more than 25 years ago, when I was a wee lad of 13, playing my first Mass
at the parish I grew up in.

Over that time, I’ve been able to experience, play and sing sacred music of all types, from the sublime glory of Gregorian chant to the deeply felt soul of gospel music to the emotional pull of contemporary music. I’m happy to present all of this music to the people of STM. I hope that it will serve to enhance your worship of God and deepen your faith.
    • Outside of church music, I enjoy bicycling, listening
to vinyl records, and playing with my six nieces and nephews, the oldest of whom is just 9. And I hope one day to be on “Jeopardy!” I dedicate my music ministry to my late maternal grandmother, an
organist herself, who always encouraged my
       musical development.

If you’re interested in joining music ministry as a singer, instrumentalist, or bell ringer, please let me know at [email protected]. You’re also welcome to follow my social media below.

      May God bless you!
