The Sacrament of Confirmation is a Sacrament of Initiation (along with Baptism and the Eucharist). While it is the end of initiation, confirmation is never really meant to be an ending, but the start of something new. It is a kind of personal Pentecost, a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our hearts that makes us doers of the Word of God, not hearers only.
A teen needs at least two consecutive years of Religious Education prior to receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. This may be through Religious Education (Family Formation) or a Catholic school. At St. Thomas More, this Sacrament is usually celebrated in the fall of a student's sophomore year in high school.
Public school teens in 8th grade are eligible to begin Confirmation preparation as "Year 1".
STM School 8th grade religion class is also "Year 1" (No registration needed)
All 9th grade teens regardless of High School should register on-line for "Year 2"
If you are a teen that has not celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation, but wish to do so and are currently in 10th-12th grade, please contact the religious education office at 847-888-4887.
